あげる (Ageru): Giver gives to recipient (I give to friend, friend gives to another):
私は友達にプレゼントをあげました。 (I gave a present to my friend.)
くれる (Kureru): Someone gives to ME or my in-group:
先生が私に本をくれました。 (The teacher gave me a book.)
もらう (Morau): Recipient receives FROM someone:
私は田中さんからお土産をもらいました。 (I received a souvenir from Mr. Tanaka.)
